While I WILL agree with most of the points in the article, the last point, that the Spanish were viewed as coming to "save the Mayans from themselves" is open to dispute. When I watched the movie, I felt it portrayed a civilization in decline, and with the arrival of the Spanish, that decline was very soon to be accelerated to it's demise. Maybe I misread it, but I DO know what the Europeans (and Spanish in paticular) did to the indegenous peoples.
